His voice was raspy and tired. The sermon notes were not on the app though we tried several times to turn off our phones and retry to get the sermon notes for 3/8, the day after FC’s 70th celebration. Pastor Josiah explained that Peter had the audacity to cite prophecy from Joel 2
“And afterward I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will
dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on
my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in
those days.” Joel 2:28-29 (NIV)
Luke wrote what Peter declared after the Holy Spirit came to the Christ followers in Acts 2.
“Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and
addressed the crowd: ‘Fellow Jews and all of you who live in
Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what
I say. These people are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine
in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet
Joel:’” Acts 2:14-16 (NIV)
Peter’s recitation from Joel explained for what they they were waiting, the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Josiah then told of his Wednesday night’s dream where a demon attacked him and tried to pull him off of the bed. He declared,”In the name of Jesus, let go!” He was thrust out of the darkness, and the spirit was gone. After that harrowing experience, Pastor Josiah turned on a podcast which emphasized the importance of forgiving others and yourself. We need to forgive and release any hurt and bitterness in order to not let satan have a foothold in our lives.
Another significant point was how Jesus sent out His disciples by two’s. They went in the power and the name of Jesus and performed many miraculous acts; however, when they returned they were bickering. After Pentecost and the Holy Spirit fell on the group, seventy people went out. That cohesive group was able to to link arms and revolutionize the world because they were unified in Jesus.
On Thursday night after struggling with one topic, then another, then another for Sunday, Pastor Josiah returned home around 12:30 a.m. He laughingly relayed to Ashley that he was out of control. The Lord told him to get out of the way and let John speak. Pastor Josiah introduced his friend, John, who had a prophetic announcement.
John first explained a little of his background that his father was a Baptist minister and that John walked away from the faith. In college he also stepped away from religion, but the Lord pursued John. The first time was when John was surfing, and he was waiting for a wave. A beam of light hit John as he was sitting on his board in the water. God’s love overwhelmed him, and a new journey began. From Ephesians 2, John read
“But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have
been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is
our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed
the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, by setting aside in his
flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose
was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two,
thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them
to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility.
He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace
to those who were near. For through him we both have access to
the Father by one Spirit.” Ephesians 2:13-18 (NIV)
John stated,”God is so good.” The Lord tore the dividing wall down between the Gentiles and the Jews. The Gentiles were outsiders and were not allowed to even visit the Temple. Because Jesus was crucified, the veil in the Temple was torn. We were given access to the Holy of Holies.
Also it is important to consider the dividing walls in our hearts. John told of confessing any unbelief in his heart, and he declared,”God, forgive me if I put you in a box, please shatter it.” In Mark, a father brought his child to the Lord Jesus so that the child would be healed.
“Jesus said to him, ‘If you can believe, all things are possible
to him who believes.’
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears,
‘Lord, I believe, help my unbelief.’” Mark 9:23-24 (NKJV)
That is the prayer I have for the Lord also; please help my unbelief.
The second encounter he had with the Lord was after he prayed, ”I need more of you, Lord.” He felt a weight on him, and eventually he grew hungrier and hungrier for the Lord. John became open to more experiences with the Holy Spirit, and he reminded us that we have the same Spirit as Jesus has in Him to cast out unbelief.
John also cited the Argentine revival in the 90’s and that San Diego would be the next Argentina. The head is cresting and the birth of revival will be occurring. It will be a significant event. “You have a personal invitation to come to the great awakening in which we are stepping. Your leadership is humble, and the time is now,” John emphasized.
John’s third encounter with the Lord was about holiness which was like electricity. His vision was that God held his heart in His hand, and the Lord was angry at his unbelief. God delivered John and peace fell on him. John declared ,”We are waging war and casting out unbelief out of our hearts. Bind unbelief and cast it out of our house, hearts and minds.”
Ashley prayed fervently that the Lord would break off all unbelief. Lord, please identify our unbelief, cast it out so that we can be salt and light in this troubled world.
