A Servant’s Heart
Colossians 3:23“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”
As I reflect on the past year, 2025, I can honestly say it was full. Full of events, conferences, rentals, long days, and even longer nights. As an events coordinator, there are seasons when the work starts before the doors open and doesn’t end until long after everyone has gone home. When I look ahead to what’s coming next, it would be easy to feel overwhelmed if I focused only on the workload.
But this isn’t just work. This is service in my Father’s house.
What sustains me is not the schedule it’s my heart posture. I’ve learned that serving the Lord is not about convenience, recognition, or ease; it’s about obedience, love, and faithfulness. When my heart is anchored in love for my Abba Father, my attitude shifts. The task may be demanding, but my spirit stays willing. Whether I’m preparing a dinner for twelve or coordinating a dinner for two hundred and fifty, the posture of my heart remains the same “Lord, this is for You”.
Work ethic matters in the Kingdom. Excellence is an act of worship. Showing up prepared, staying late, doing the unseen work, and stewarding every detail with care is a reflection of who we believe God is. When we work halfheartedly, complain easily, or cut corners, it reveals more about our hearts than our circumstances. But when we serve with integrity and humility, even the smallest assignment becomes sacred.
My heart leaps with joy when I look back at events or conferences I helped organize and remember that people encountered Jesus and chose to follow Him. Often my role is behind the scenes setting up a coffee bar, organizing snacks but the Lord sees every quiet “yes.” Nothing offered to Him is ever wasted.
As I lead teams and serve alongside volunteers, I carry a deep reverence for those who choose to give their time to God’s house. A servant’s heart doesn’t demand honor it gives it. True leadership flows from love, respect, and a willingness to serve alongside others, not above them. We serve those who serve Him, knowing the impact reaches far beyond what we can see.
This heart posture doesn’t stop at the church doors. A servant-hearted attitude matters just as much in the workplace, in business, and in everyday life. The world is watching how believers respond to pressure and conflict. Do we grumble and do the bare minimum, or do we work as unto the Lord with excellence and honor? Our work ethic is a witness.
When our focus returns to Him, even the most ordinary tasks are filled with holy meaning. Serving in God’s house is a privilege. It is an offering laid at His feet. And even when our hands are tired and our bodies are weary, our hearts can remain full because we are building something that belongs to Him, for His glory alone.
A Servant’s Heart: 3 Ways to Live It
No Grumbling
Practice praising and if grumbling or complaining is about to come out, catch it and remind yourself I'm doing this unto YOU Lord.
Work with Excellence
Give your best in every moment. Even unseen efforts become worship when done faithfully and with integrity.
Lead and Encourage with Love
Honor and support those around you. A servant’s attitude reflects Christ in every space, inside the church and out.
