Intentional 21 - Day 5: Jennifer Segura

A Community In One Accord

My husband and I first gave our lives to the Lord about a year into our marriage. When we gave our lives to Christ it was us starting over, a new beginning. Our walk with the Lord was new. We were on fire for God, got baptized in the Holy Spirit, and were so hungry for the things of God.

We were going to two churches every Sunday back to back because we just couldn’t get enough and we hadn’t found a church to call home yet. I remember my Tia Ruth gifting us a trip to Virginia around this time. I didn’t know the impact that trip would have on me until later.

My cousin, who lived there, was also a newly wed, with a baby and they were on fire for God. It was the first time I had seen someone my age who also loved the Lord with a huge passion. When it was time to come back home we were sad because we realized that we didn’t have anyone to connect with that also loved the Lord to the degree we were falling in love with Him. Thats when we prayed a prayer I will never forget. We prayed, “Lord please bring us likeminded fellow believers who are also on fire for you God, we want to find a community that will help us in our walk and strengthen our faith. Amen!”

That next Sunday after we prayed that prayer the Lord answered that prayer here at Faith Chapel. Pastor Josiah and Ashley had just been introduced as the new Young Adult Pastors to the congregation, we met them, got plugged in to the ministry and found the community we had just prayed for. A community of people who were on fire for the Lord! It was beautiful.

Acts 2:46 “They worshipped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lords Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity.”

In community you find your support system.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says “So encourage one another and build each other up, just as you are already doing”. Seek and surround yourself with people who will encourage you in your walk with the Lord and help you along the way.

Hebrews 10:24 says “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”

I needed that community as a new mom and as someone just starting out on my faith and I still need it today just as much. It’s a blessing to me when the Lord places people in my life that continuously build me up and pray for me. So, I want to be that kind of blessing to others all around me as well.

Proverbs 18:24 says “There are “friends” who destroy each other but a real friend sticks closer than a brother”.

Engagement:

Today I challenge you to pray for your friends, If while you were reading this you had someone pop into your thoughts, send them a message or give them a phone call. Encourage them and let them know how much you appreciate them.

If you do not have a community of people who loves the Lord pray a bold prayer and ask Him to connect you into a community like that, just like I did 10 years ago.

He is a good Father and wants to see His children blessed. Pray for the people the Lord brings into your life and that you may be the answer to their bold prayers. If you remain in Him, He will provide you with all that you need to thrive in One Accord.
