He was diagnosed with stage four cancer and was not supposed to be able to sing, talk or even recover. He wanted to die. But his wife came into his hospital room and started singing,
“Come thou fount of every blessing.” She forgot the rest of the song and instead sang,”You are good, God.” For three hours she declared that fact!
Jason David is now cancer free, and his wife Allison and he travel all over the US in an rv sharing in schools, churches, prisons, and juvenile detention facilities. It is the No Turning Back Tour. They have been on the road for 693 days.
Jason posed some intriguing questions: ”What if life came with a sound track for every situation? What if God created your sound track? What would it sound like?”
Jason cited Genesis 1:27. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” (NIV) We are made in His image. Jason asked for a coin, and ViVi gave him a quarter. On it was George Washington’s head. Also the Roman coin during Jesus’ time had Caesar’s head on it. “Caesar can have his money. We have value because we are made in His image.”
Next Jason led us in reading Genesis 1:31. “God saw all that he made, and it was good.” (NIV) The Creator made us in His image, and He saw that it was good. That is how He feels about us.
From Jeremiah 1:5, Jason read,”Before I formed you in the womb I knew you….” (NIV) He has known you forever. Jason suggested, “If you want to know who you are, get to know Him.”
In the New Testament, Jason reminded us “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) Is it incredible to think that you are God’s masterpiece? Do you know that fact? Do you talk and act like His masterpiece?
Another significant verse that Jason emphasized was “I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt.”
Hosea 5:3 (NIV) “God is a name changer not a name caller,” declared Jason. For example, Abram was renamed Abraham, which meant “father of many.” His son was Isaac who had a son named Jacob (which means deceiver) who was later called Israel. Jacob/Israel had twelve sons, and his favorite was Joseph. Joseph had two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim, of which Ephraim was the favored one, the baby of the baby. Pet names are said in love and affection.
God is love, and love is delineated in 1 Corinthians 13.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not
self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of
wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes,
always persevere. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (NIV)
Those verses describe our Creator. He does not keep a record of our wrong doings because our confessed sins are as far as the east is from the west. Hallelujah!
In addition, God does not handle conflict like we do. When we were young, we received our little tool boxes that were filled with conflict tools like silent treatment, name calling, gossiping. As we grew up, we used our tool boxes with the same tools because the boxes had not been upgraded. “That is normal but not okay,” said Jason. We do not like to be mistreated and should not mistreat others. That is what the Lord taught us to treat others like we want to be treated.
God has a sound track that He plays over you. “The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV) The Lord is with you. He is ever present. Hebrews 13:5 states,”I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Also just like a loving mother sings over her child, the Lord, your Heavenly Father, sings over you. He is ready for you.
The proper response is to sing to Him, and we did! Hallelujah! These lessons are not for children but for us adults. May we learn and reflect His love as salt and light in this world.
